Stan's father was in the Royal Marines first. We know he served on HMS Temeraire. He was also a bands man in the Royal Marines Band.
He worked for Trinity House from 1923, full time until around 1937 and then as occasional keeper for holiday relief etc.
We can not really find out too much about his service history. But we think he served as follows:
1923 Blackwall Depot (AK)
???? Casquets (We know he was there in 1927 when E.T. Pay was assistant keeper there. We have some original oil paintings given to dad by E.T.Pay who had painted them while they were at the Casquets station together.)
???? Trevose Head (This is just a suspicion as there are so many pictures of this LH in the family collection)
Skerries (AK )
appointed Storekeeper Gt. Yarmouth depot in Norfolk
1968 occasional keeper at St. Catherines, Isle of Wight
Ernest Butcher married Florence Ball, the daughter of Charles Ball, in August 1927 in Lowestoft, where Charles was stationed at the time.
Ernest and Florence had two sons. Stan and his younger brother David. Sadly neither had the chance to follow the family tradition to become lighthouse keepers.
